Roundtail chubs (upper pair) and the Sonora sucker (on bottom) are native to Arizona’s streams and rivers. Many free-flowing rivers and streams that once supported large populations of these fish, including the San Pedro and Gila, flow no more. Loss of stream habitat and predation by introduced non-native fishes increasingly imperil the roundtail chub, so that starting in 2014, any caught in Arizona must be immediately released unharmed.
