Treefish are solitary and live in caves and crevices in rocky reefs along the Pacific Coast of southern California and Baja California. When two of the highly territorial fish meet, they have a head-on face-off with open mouths, prominent pink lips, and flared gill covers. This gyotaku portrays the drama of one of these underwater encounters.
