A large squid’s tentacles seize and quickly enwrap the prey. The small fish cannot escape the tight cling of hundreds of tiny, hook-filled suction cups and its futile struggle will soon end. Whether carnivorous or herbivorous, all animal life is sustained by the lives of other living things. Life and death are inseparable sides of a single process – the never-ending transfer of the energy and materials of which all living things are made.
