A largemouth bass lunges in attack, attention focused on but one of the three small fish. Any diversion of this focus from its single intended prey lessens the predator’s likelihood of success.
Our modern society extols “multi-tasking” as the formula for success in an increasingly complex world. Yet by attempting to simultaneously divide our attention among so many things, penetrating focus on any one of them is not achieved. Without such focus we merely skim repeatedly over the surfaces of what may be far more profound experiences offered by our ordinary daily lives.
